If you love blue waters, beautiful sunsets and beaches then you need to add the South of France to your holiday list for 2024. We went for 3 days in October and were blessed with lovely weather. However, looking back I’d say you’d need 5 days or more to really make the most out of it.

When we travelled to the South of France we visited the following:
- Nice
- Menton
- Villfranche-sur-mer
- Monaco

Nice
We based ourself in Nice as the accommodation was cheaper, with the train station being the best public transport you’re able to get access to other places along the French Rivera.
The biggest and most picturesque city on the French Riviera is Nice.
Nice, one of France’s most well-liked tourist attractions, is easily explained by its unique blend of urban convenience and scenic beauty.
There are many things to in Nice depending on the vibe you’re looking for. You can visit ‘Get your guide’ for things to do when you’re here.

These are a few things I did:
1) Promenade des Anglais
Take a stroll along the beautiful seafront with many food and drink spots.
2) Visit Castle Hill
There are multiple ways to reach the summit of Castle Hill.
I suggest using the lift that is located in the same area as the stairway which is directly next to the Promenade des Anglais. While it looks scary and that it may breakdown I promise you it’s fully functioning.
If you’re like me and a sucker for views then you need to add this to your list. If you can make it for sunset then I would recommend going here. It’s also free which is a bonus.
Menton
This is definitely one of the most underrated spots in the French Riviera however, needs to be added to the top of your list.
A pleasant diversion from the bustling of Monaco and Nice is found in the quaint town of Menton, which borders Italy and is best known for its yearly Lemon festival.

As Menton boarders Italy it also has a strong presence of Italian life. However the beautiful pastel buildings, blue water and gorgeous weather is what makes Menton so charming and worth the visit.
What to do whilst you’re there.
1) Visit the zigzag vibrant yellow staircase

Taking the stairs will lead you to a beautiful church. Unfortunately, it was closed the day we were there but I’m sure the interior is magical.
2) The basilica of Saint-Michael

3) Take a stroll along Plage des Sablettes Est

4) Grab a spot to eat and drink along the beach. We went to Umi restaurant fusion where they have happy hour 3.30 until 6.30. They even serve you with free crisps whilst you’re waiting which I always think is a lovely touch for restaurants and bars to do.

Villfranche-sur-mer
This charming fishing village in the south of France is regarded as one of the most exquisite port towns in the area.
There are amazing beaches and many places to explore, so you can have a very laid-back vacation.

There are vibrant homes around, and the stunning deep blue Mediterranean sea perfectly compliment one another. Because of its beauty, Villefranche-sur-Mer has actually appeared in a number of well-known motion pictures such as the Killers staring Katherine Heigl and Ashton Kutcher.
Make sure to check out…
1) Église Saint-Michel
The location is unusual for a church located at the very top of the stairs leading from the harbour, which makes it very peaceful once you get up there. In 1990, this old church was declared a historical monument.

2) Visit Alma-Gout Mediterranee
A beautiful restaurant over looking the deep blue waters. This restaurant has cute interior along with friendly staff which is a perfect spot to relax for a couple hours.
The food also matches the scenery…amazing!!!
3) Relax on Plage de L’ange Gardien
We didn’t spend anytime at this beach as we visited here on our last day. However, the pebbled beach makes this a nice spot to spend your time. Make sure you come prepared with a towel, water and snacks.
The question on everyones mind ‘’Is the south of France worth visiting?’’
The simple answer to this is 100% yes!
The south of France has so much to offer and I feel like we didn’t see half of it. I would go back here in a heartbeat to visit some of the other places we didn’t have time to see.
I believe all these places in the French Riviera can be easily accessed by train if you don’t plan on hiring a car for your trip.
We were able to go from Nice, Menton, Monaco and Villefranche-Sur-Mer all by train. The cost for these were no more than £10 which is really good.
One final tip which a kind couple shared with us and I’ve already mentioned this on my travel page on Instagram, but make sure you sit on the left hand side when on the train for breathtaking views.
If this was my commute to work everyday I wouldn’t be sad.
