My honest opinion of Monaco

I had a lot of high expectations for Monaco as everyone always says how good it is. Monaco is one of smallest states after the Vatican City.

This small coastal nation on the French Riviera evokes images of glitz, luxury, aristocracy, and money. Monaco is known for being expensive so you need to make sure you have the money when visiting.

Since visiting Monaco I have had a lot of mixed feelings. I didn’t instantly fall in love with the place but I also didn’t hate it. This could be down to the fact I was only there for a few hours as we stopped here whilst in the South of France.

Monaco is well known for its wealth and in particular the Grand Prix and Yacht shows. If you’re into cars and formula one then this country is a place you need to visit, there are a number of different museums all dedicated to cars which could be interesting to check out.

Monaco also has strong influences from the neighbouring countries such as France, Italy and Spain and while I didn’t love the country it didn’t take away from how beautiful the place is.

As Monaco is a small country you can see everything you would want in a day and I’d recommend doing this. As we were on a tight schedule I didn’t get to see everything I wanted to. It would have been nice to explore more of the old town, as I have heard it’s full of colourful streets with the Mediterranean at every angle. Whilst on the way to the old town you may even get a chance of seeing the change of guard and the Prince’s Palace.

Monaco by night

I didn’t get to experience Monaco at night however, I’ve heard it offers a selection of fancy restaurants, clubs and fun entertainment.

Travel tip: This is something I didn’t know until arriving but Uber isn’t permitted in Monaco. While you can travel into the country by Uber you’ll need to arrange alternative transport for coming home, if you’re based outside of Monaco. This is something to keep in mind when you’re planning a night out.

Would I return? It’s not a country I’m going to hurry back to however, I do see myself back in Monaco in the future and next time I want to experience everything. Looking back I only saw the main attractions which was my down fall and didn’t really get to experience the beauty and history of Monaco.

When in Monaco you’re most likely doing the South of France. If you want a South of France guide then please visit my previous blog post for my information. You can also check out my travel page over on Instagram.
